THE YEAR of ERICH ROISER
It was 1964, in the US, that Erich Roiser - indulging in his favorite watersport - put on a "rubber suit" for the first time in his life. And it did not take long for him to visualize himself manufacturing wet-suits in Austria in order to prolong the watersports season in his home country.
COMPANY FOUNDATION CAMARO
A significant date for Erich and Heide Roiser - together with a friend they set up their company CAMARO to produce wetsuits , located in AU 42 on the lake Mondsee. Right from the start their slogan is "learning by doing". They concentrate on suits for waterski and diving and their first 4-page- catalogue proudly presents 5 different styles of wet-suits.
CAMARO moves to ST. LORENZ AM MONDSEE
the village across the lake. The groundfloor of an old farmhouse is adapted to become the production site and office of CAMARO company who hire their first 3 employees and expand their machinery. CAMARO Erich Roiser GmbH is ready for more and new tasks.
Different styles of wet suits are launched
and CAMARO introduces COLOUR to the market - made possible by double-lined Neoprene. Legendary styles like Farmer-John pants, Corsar- and Corsarpro jackets, as well as Monoshorts and Neoprene accessories like gloves, booties and hoods are manufactured and become bestsellers on a constantly growing waterspotrs market.
The market is growing
More and more watersports enthusiasts seem to want CAMARO wet suits, the production site has to be enlarged and the crew doubled.
CAMARO goes international!
In 1975 CAMARO goes international and exhihibits at international trade shows like SPOGA in Germany, DEMA in the US and SALON NAUTIQUE in Paris.
The team is growing
In order to meet the continuously growing requirements of the market Erich Roiser decides to move again - this time into a 1000 squaremetre production site with attached office building - the new address is St. Lorenz 300. The machinery is enlarged and modernized a lot more staff members are engaged, the Team CAMAROkeeps growing. We exhibit on even more international shows - as in Santiago, Chile, Singapore and Kualalumpur and the brand CAMARO Wetsuits is recognized worldwide.
Erich Roiser finishes third
at the Austrian Waterski Championship, his personal enthusiasm for watersports as well as his creativity and vision carry the company into a successful future.
PURCHASE of KOMPERDELL
In order to protect the core-business against seasonal fluctuations Erich Roiser decides to buy KOMPERDELL another sporting-goods company - producing ski-poles. This enables him to garantee jobs throughout the year.
Windsurfing is booming, every second car in Central Europe carries 1 - 2 boards on their roof and on every lake future champions are trying hard to master the wobbly board with the huge sail. There is a great demand for CAMARO wetsuits and the company can double their annual turnover.
SPONSERING has always been a big issue.
The very close cooperation between athletes and our company always worked both ways. We were able to develop new products and enhance existing ones because of the feedback we got from our athletes and they could achieve better results because of the advantages they have had because of our efforts. Sportsmen like Franz Oberleitner or Jaret Llevellyn in waterski, Harry Brandstätter in Windsurfing and kiting or Erich Pröll in diving who have been with us for many years have helped to transport the brand CAMARO and the quality it stands for into the world.
CAMARO sets trends!
At DEMA diving show in Las Vegas our very sexy Farmer John - high cut tiger design - was the sensation in the ladies' department. It even brought us into the Austrian daily newspaper Kurier - they dedicated one page of their 17th August 1985 edition to the daring and inventive owner of CAMARO, Mr. Erich Roiser.
SEMI DRY CLASSIC - INNOVATION
For years, the SEMI-DRY CLASSIC dive suit - in the classical colors black and red - has dominated the diving scene in Europe. It has been and still is a classic among divers.
CAMARO and KOMPERDELL production site in St. Lorenz 300 is constantly growing as new buildings are added to the existing ones in order to meet the requirements of growing markets. At CAMARO colours become more and more daring, fluorescent colours and cool designs dominate our collections. One of the favourites was the tropical diving overall in GRAFFITI design, the most charming and colourful of its kind. To CAMARO'S traditional watersports - diving, waterski and windsurfing we add sailing, triathlon, kayaking and canyoning and - a product line of bathing suits, from sexy Bikinis to functional swim suits. CAMARO is awarded a number of prizes, especially in the field of diving - an award we won 6 times in a row.
The next generation
Thomas Roiser, takes over the management of CAMARO/KOMPERDELL. Having grown up in a family which has always been dominated by sports and the business, he looks back on years of participating in the same activities as his father and sharing his enthusiasm for them. Thus fully motivated and supported by his young team he leads the company into a new future and expands its business relations overseas.
CAMARO GOES ONLINE
and presents their products in the world-wide-web. The constant development of new and functional designs, the passion for details dominate each new product line.
EXPANSION of the FACTORY
Another building is added to improve the storage facilities.
CAMARO does it again
we introduce a new dimension to dry-diving. The drysuit "Riviera" combines breathing and water tight 3-layer material with neoprene and guarantees warmth and comfort, 3-layer material allows freedom of movement from the waist up and neoprene provides perfect isolation from the waist down.
CAMARO overseas branch is opened
in order to cope with substantially increasing sales in the US. Office and storage space are located in Kent/Washington and 3 employees are engaged. This will enable us to react faster and more effective to US customer requests.
A new distribution centre is built
in Burgau on yet another lake-shore of the Mondsee. This logistics centre of appr. 5000sqm should be able to handle the increasing demand for our products.
